Salmon Arm Student Recognized at CA Ceremony

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 25, 2009

VANCOUVER—Salmon Arm chartered accountant (CA) student, Shawn Birkenhead (BDO Dunwoody LLP), graduated from the CA School of Business program at a ceremony held May 23, 2009 in Vancouver. Students recognized at the convocation ceremony are eligible for membership in the Institute of Chartered Accountants of BC this year.

“Shawn earned his CA designation by successfully completing an unparalleled and rigorous academic program, focused on business and accounting competencies,” said Richard Rees, FCA, CEO of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia. “We are very proud of him, and he should be proud to have earned the prestigious CA designation.”

To qualify as a CA, students must have a university degree or equivalent, 30 months of practical work experience in a chartered accountancy firm, and complete courses through the CA Qualification Program. CAs must also pass a comprehensive rigorous national final exam to earn their designation.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia is the training, governing and regulatory body of B.C.'s 9,700 members and just over 1,500 CA students. The Institute carries out its primary mission to protect the public by enforcing the most demanding admission criteria and the highest professional and ethical standards. Thanks to the quality and rigour of their education and training, CAs are recognized internationally for bringing superior financial expertise, strategic thinking, business insight and leadership to organizations.
